One of the first casualties of the global recession was travel, especially in the corporate world. The answer to that is finally coming in–not only are most countries and properties clamoring to offer the best deals around, countries that were never considered serious destinations are becoming contenders in the world travel business.
While many groups might continue sending their conferences and meetings to Europe or larger Asian countries, some are looking at Myanmar, Vietnam, the Philippines, and other smaller destinations. Some of these destinations are just starting out in the world market for travel, and are offering the best they can give–including prices–to attract meetings.
Like new islands springing up after a volcanic eruption, some countries are deciding that they want to be part of the conference world. The more the merrier, because it means increased competition, decreasing prices, and competitive service and amenities.
Tropical destinations like the Caribbean are almost a cliché for those looking for island travel, so why not look to places like the Asian Islands? Of course your client will have to prepare for true international travel, but if you plan well enough in advance it should not be a problem.
So next time a client wants an exotic destination without the exotic price tag, try some of the lesser-known islands of the Pacific or other countries that have not previously been in the forefront of travel. You and your client may be pleasantly surprised.
